Government of Canada to Support Woman Owned Businesses

Toronto, Ontario - November 13th 2013

The Canadian Federal Government has recently announced $500,000 in funding to support and encourage business success for female entrepreneurs.

WeConnect Canada has been awarded  $512,000 in funding for a project entitled From Contacts to Contracts. The project is designed to reduce barriers that are currently reinforcing the underrepresentation of women in Canada's corporate supply chains. This will be accomplished by increasing corporate support of female-led businesses, and to help foster supplier diversity. Specifically major Canadian corporations have committed to taking specific action aimed at encouraging woman-owned business through the project. The funding will support the on-going enhancement of the program.

The minister of labour and minister of status of women Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, announced the Canadian government’s support of the new project at the annual WeConnect Canada business conference for women business leaders in Ontario. “The number one priority of our government is jobs, growth and long-term prosperity,” accruing to minister Leitch. “That is why our government is creating greater economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs in many sectors through projects like this one with WeConnect Canada. Projects like this will help our economy prosper.”
